On June 1st, from 11-13, artist Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen leads the interactive performance LOOPS & HOOPS on the floors and corridors of Amager Centret, blending hula-hooping and the carefree circularity of the body into the bustling shopping center choreography.
The 10-15 performers are smiling as they take over Amager Centret with swinging hula-hoops and bodies in motion. It's Saturday around noon, and while the people of Amager shop, they hoop and perform tricks with their rings. They stand in their own little world, scattered amidst the center's hustle and bustle. When the opportunity arises, they invite bypassers to hoop with them, and to become part of the circular movement.
Hula hoop is a dynamic game that distributes positive energy and evokes associations to the carefree time-wasting of childhood. Cuenca Rasmussen introduces this feeling in the center atmosphere, if only for a little while. The hula hoop is also a symbol of the circular, the cyclical – the feminine energy – subtly dispersed by the artist through her infectious, circular movements.
