On occasion of acclaimed Danish/Swedish artist Gun Gordillo’s 80th birthday on August 14, 2025, 2112 is proud to present a pop-up exhibition of her works in our gallery in Holbergsgade, running from August 6 to 16, 2025.
Gordillo has long held a prominent position in both the Nordic and international art scenes. Since the 1980s, she has lived and worked between Paris and Copenhagen. From 1985, she and her husband, artist Freddy Fraek, were both represented by the influential Galerie Denise René in Paris—a key venue for kinetic and geometric abstraction. Gordillo’s striking use of neon light, dynamic lines, and spatial tension positioned her within an international conversation around post-minimalism and concrete art—while maintaining a highly distinctive visual language.
To mark this milestone, a new monograph on Gordillo’s life and work will be released by Arvinius + Orfeus Publishing with graphic design by Kiosk Studio. The book provides a richly illustrated and in-depth look at Gordillo’s decades-long career, with contributions from leading art historians and curators Domitille D’Orgeval, Marika Wachtmeister, Mette Marcus, and Ingela Lind.
The official book launch will take place at Copenhagen Contemporary (CC) on August 16, 2025, from 13:00 to 16:00, near their presentation of Gordillo’s work. CC is currently displaying three works on loan from the artist’s collection, all emblematic of her lifelong engagement with neon light.
From 14:00 to 14:30, art historian and contributor to the book Mette Marcus will engage in a public tête-à-tête with Gun Gordillo, reflecting on three key moments of Gordillo’s artistic practice.
