Hilma af Klint

In 2020, Hilma af Klint (1862-1944) is taking Moderna Museet Malmö by storm. The exhibition was originally meant to open in April, but will instead be opening on 16 June. Pre-booked tickets are required for all visitors, including children and others who have free admission. More information will be posted on the website nearer the opening date.

The presentation of the artist’s work will be their biggest project of the year by far—a comprehensive exhibition of approximately 230 works that occupies the entire museum building. Since Moderna Museet’s retrospective Hilma af Klint: Abstract Pioneer in 2013, interest in af Klint’s work has grown tremendously both in Sweden and internationally.

Now, seven years after the Stockholm exhibition, Moderna Museet Malmö is providing new insights into the artist’s systematic research and interdisciplinary working method. For six months the entire museum will become a temple to Hilma af Klint. The exhibition spans the artist’s entire career, emphasizing Paintings for the Temple (1906–15), which the artist herself considered her most important work. The selection of works includes the complete series called The Ten Biggest from 1907, which will be on view for what is likely the last time in a very long time.
