In a world of rapidly changing moments, artist Marguerite Ogden celebrates items from her mother’s house and the vivid memories they evoke. Her work, Scraps of Memory, was inspired by recent life events.
Following the passing of her mother, Ogden—an only child—took on the responsibility of caring for her mother's house. As the home of her grandparents and mother, it contained a rich collection of objects accumulated over several generations, including many from her own childhood. While reviewing these belongings, Ogden was overwhelmed by a flood of memories, prompting her to create this evocative piece.
For her installation, Ogden constructed a small, childlike house, entirely covered with printed textures. Incorporating written memories and hand-printed paper, she woven these elements together to create a visceral foundation that explores the themes of home and memory. In addition to this installation, the work has a virtual component: the artist will be posting longer versions of her memories @holmkunsthal.
