Well- I forgot, however I recently learnt that Kathleen Hanna - who was at the time the lead singer of Bikini Kill and a good friend of Kurt Cobain - famously scrawled "Kurt smells like Teen Spirit" on Cobain's wall, inadvertently providing the title for his band's biggest hit. I also only recently learnt that TEEN Spirit is a deodorant in the US.
Its instances and anecdotes like these which inform my work. All the works for the show at Wild horses Gallery are related to songs/lyrics I like and which surround me while I work.The simple premise was - how can I transform the images that form in my head … in all our heads, when we listen to a song into a painting? With the help of the internet, of early Al image generators I collected and created image resource material to find a motive which I then decided to paint in oil on canvas. The results are various, from obvious to bizarre -these images gather a vast cultural landscape. Robert Smithson wrote in A Cinematic Atopia (Artforum, September 1971): "Somewhere at the bottom of my memory are the sunken remains of all the films I have ever seen, good and bad they swarm together forming cinematic mirages, stagnant pools of images that cancel each other out."
It is from these pools of words and images I draw from, guided by what touches me.”

Matti Isan Blind was born in Busan, Republic of Korea. He graduated with a BA from Chelsea College of Art, London and has participated in multiple solo and group shows around the world. Matti lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
