Galleri Weinberger Schandorff is proud to present the new solo exhibition Graphite by Michael B. Chang. Michael’s first childhood sketches were made with graphite and was the most important tool for him to get his ideas translated from his imagination to tangible drawings on paper. Since, Michael, has utilized graphite to initiate new artistic ideas and directions.

The exhibition Graphite is both a starting point for Michael’s newest artistic project and a presentation of his abstract drawing skills with graphite blocks and pencils applied on canvas, paper, mobiles, and directly on the walls of the gallery. Common for all his exhibited works is the incorporation of graphite as a fundamental element.

Michael Baastrup Chang (b. 1973) is a Danish-Korean artist living and working in Copenhagen. Michael has studied visual arts at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London in the mid-1990s, making his debut as a painter in Copenhagen back in 2008.

Throughout his career he has initiated, arranged and participated in collaborations with other artists. This includes works in theaters and multi- and single channel video projects, screened at various venues and spaces in the United States, South America, Canada, Europe, South Africa and Australia.

The last decade Michael has focused on prints and paintings and accomplished several workshops at master printers from Crown Point Press in California to Printer’s Proof in Valby. Michael has perfectioned his artistic practice within the area of tempera paintings on canvas, graphite and beeswax drawings, etchings and deep print on paper, as well as chine-collé.

Former Chang exhibitions at the gallery count Livet efter halvfems in 2016 and Farver hentet fra en barndom in 2020.
