For Episode 4 of the chain exhibition, Uffe Isolotto presents MARE, a continuation of the themes explored in the previous episodes. Known for his incisive explorations of human-animal hybridity, Isolotto's work is a deliberate response to earlier pieces.
The installation features a stuffed hare whose gory artificial limb extends and morphs into a liquid amaranth-like floral form. High-pressure sodium lights cast a monochromatic yellow glow, transforming the gallery space into an uncanny environment. The lights freeze the moment of a roadkill, evoking a nightmare caused by the intrusion of technology into nature - a 'machine in the garden' moment. Using the permeating properties of electromagnetic radiation, this violent intervention acts as a final post-production layer, unifying disparate narratives into a cohesive sensory field and establishing a visceral continuity in the conceptual chain.
Isolotto's work follows and builds upon Nemanja Askov's speculative narratives of post-human and animal fusion with his anthropomorphic rabbit sculpture; Rebecca Krasnik's augmented screen surfaces with her virtual tortoise; and Ivan Grubanov's deconstructed oppressive collectivity with faces imprisoned within national flags. In this evolving dialogue, MARE takes on the layered contexts of belonging, identity and metamorphosis, amplifying the relational dynamics of Needy, Nerdy, Artificial.
The chain exhibition format creates a dynamic process, with each artist responding to the previous work. This approach allows for multiple interpretations and connections, making 'Needy, Nerdy, Artificial' a space where creative exchange becomes a medium itself.
