In Omnipresence, visual artist Theis Wendt frames embellished portraits of shattered glass facades on four of Amager Centret's bare concrete walls.
Glass is ubiquitous in the capitalist world. A glass facade between a shop and the street serves as an invisible barrier, highlighting the power dynamics between the seller and consumer, as the glass contributes to maintaining a potential desire. For the same reason, the fragility of the glass facade is often the target of anti-capitalist attacks. In his contribution to FABRIKKEN Afd. AC, Wendt has based his work on what glass represents in both capitalism and its criticism.
Omnipresence redefines revolutionary aesthetics, attempting to turn criticism against itself in hopes of making the viewer ponder on what anti-capitalism might look like in a hyper-capitalist world. Is the aesthetics of criticism doomed to have an anti-aesthetic expression, or is it possible to break its aesthetic boundaries? The contribution marks the 11th exhibition on the platform and can be experienced in the center until June 30th.

FABRIKKEN Afd. AC is an exhibition platform that integrates contemporary art with the shopping experience at Amager Centret. In 2020, FABRIKKEN for Kunst og Design created the platform, which is fluid and borrows stores, walls, and spaces for exhibitions. The project is supported by Amager Centret, Amager Øst & Vest Local Councils, the 15. Juni Foundation, the Danish Arts Foundation, Spar Nord Foundation, and the Beckett Foundation.
