"Do you see the red flags?" asks the organization Danner in a nationwide campaign. These are the signs that warn of intimate partner violence — signs that can be difficult to spot. Psychological abuse is the central theme of the exhibition No One’s Gonna Love You Like I Do by Christine Overvad Hansen.
An exhibition that explores the cultural and emotional markers that for centuries have shaped our ideas of infatuation, love, and relationships. The exhibition highlights how the warning signs of violence — the red flags — can be so difficult to recognize and instead mistakenly interpreted as love. Both by individuals and, crucially, by society at large; Psychological abuse was criminalized in DK in 2019, but is still surrounded by a significant taboo.
In No One’s Gonna Love You Like I Do, ten years of artistic practice come together in an exhibition that reveals a profound seriousness and activism at the core of Christine Overvad Hansen’s work. She creates a space where psychological abuse becomes sensoriall y present. Visitors are guided through Møstings’ four rooms, which together stage a spiral of psychological mechanisms such as seduction, manipulation, control, and emotional breakdown. Participating in the conversation are visual artist Christine Overvad Hansen and Danner’s director, Mette Marie Yde. Nanna Stjernholm Jepsen, the curator of the current exhibition, will introduce the exhibition and moderate the ensuing discussion.
The exhibition catalogue is available for purchase at Møstings.
