The exhibition brings together 16 artists from France, Germany, Canada, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Denmark in an exploration of what contemporary drawing is today. Rooted in the seemingly simple, pencil and paper, the exhibition opens up a complex and multifaceted field where individual practices intersect across geography and tradition.
In the tension between Danish and international positions, drawing unfolds as both an intuitive and conceptual medium. The works revolve around themes such as the body, landscape, and memory, while also investigating structure, repetition, and materiality. Here, drawing is not presented as a preparatory study or sketch, but as an autonomous work in which thought and action are inseparably linked.
The exhibition highlights how the pencil—through its direct contact with the paper—can hold an almost infinite range of expressions, from the meticulous and controlled to the spontaneous and gestural. Within this immediacy, a space emerges where the personal and the universal coexist, and where subtle shifts in line and surface can open up broader narratives.
Through the 16 artistic practices, a picture emerges of a medium in constant motion. Contemporary drawing appears here as an open field, where the simplicity of the material enables a profound complexity—a space in which diverse expressions can exist side by side, expanding our understanding of what drawing can be.
