With the exhibition Breathe the Ice, Inuuteq Storch (b. 1989) has created a site-specific total installation for Politikens Forhal. Here, he delves into JP/Politiken Media Group extensive photo archive, which contains more than a century of photojournalistic material that has, over the decades, helped shape the Danish public’s narratives about Kalaallit Nunaat.
The exhibition consists exclusively of Storch’s carefully selected archival material and, presented without chronology, highlights journalistic portrayals and perspectives on Inuit culture. By taking control of the archive at JP/Politiken Media Group, Storch raises an important question: Who is really observing whom – and who holds the right to do so?
