Drawing on his current exhibition at Nordatlantens Brygge, Sæbjörnsson unfolds the idea of art as a living species – a force that collaborates with humans, heals, and shapes us. Through images, sound, and storytelling, the performance moves between the poetic and the scientifically speculative, inviting the audience to rethink the boundaries between living and non-living, human and environment.
The ‘lecture performance’ format is a further development of his earlier works From Magma to Mankind and Object Species, which have been presented, among other places, at Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin (2020) and Moderna Museet in Stockholm (2021). In this performance format a lecture is combined with projections of images, drawings, animation, text, and sound that expand the narrative in space. Through this format, Sæbjörnsson challenges our worldview with playful seriousness and unexpected perspectives—like a scientific presentation—opening up a more connected and less hierarchical understanding of life.
Sæbjörnsson is known for combining installation, music, and storytelling in performances that both entertain and expand our perception of art’s role in the world. This Lecture Performance is created specifically in connection with the exhibition at Nordatlantens Brygge and offers a unique insight into the ideas behind it.
