Like imprints of motifs on the retina, the works momentarily pull us out of our habitual gaze. A vibrant blue, fragments of stones and plants, pixelated brushstrokes. We are invited into a universe that reflects Miriam's experimental process, where process and improvisation are often the tools to move the imagery somewhere new and challenge our perception.
The montages combine photographic prints and handheld screen prints on materials such as paper, metal and canvas. The works are abstract yet have their own specific imagery with references to classic art photography, digital art and painting. Based on her large personal photographic archive, she breaks down and reworks motifs through digital and analog interventions. She is constantly in a process of creating new sensory experiences and realizations. The montage moves across the works as elements are repeated in new juxtapositions in different works in the exhibition space.
Nature is central to her work and perhaps it is a search for a re-enchanted nature that is going on. “Nature as image” and our role in nature is explored. Artificial hair intertwines with grass, a tarpaulin becomes a figure and plant motifs are printed on metal. In interaction with the simple colors, the works appear simultaneously contemporary, futuristic and spiritual. She disrupts the linear narrative of the world around us, creating an experience of subject and physicality as connected in new spaces for contemplation.
