Until recently, Vestergade 18 was an empty demolition site. When houses are torn down, generations of history disappear forever. In collaboration with Guldborgsund Municipality, artist Søren Lose has transformed a gaping void into a place where life can once again flourish.

By linking architecture, local history, and gardening in a site-specific art project, he aims to create an inspiring urban space for people, insects, and plants alike.
Using a floor plan and photographs of the house as it appeared in the 1930s, Lose has recreated the house’s foundation. From the bay window, visitors can overlook the site and access both a raised bed and an orchard. After years of decay, new nature and new stories are taking root here—stories that point to Sakskøbing both as a center for fruit and food production and as a growing town. The artwork looks both backward in time and forward to the future.
The piece is made entirely from recycled materials: bricks, stepping stones, and wood, all sourced locally. Through this work, a new identity is taking shape for Vestergade 18.
Artist Søren Lose presents the project with a focus on its cultural and natural historical themes and will also lead a green, participatory workshop for the public.
Søren works on projects at the intersection of art, architecture, and traditional craftsmanship. His works explore themes such as space, architecture, memory, cultural identity, and landscape, and he works in various media including photography, sculpture, installation, and performance. Søren’s work is grounded in research and historical imagery and often draws on the available

One could say that the relationship between the man-made and nature is a central theme in Søren’s art. For Søren Lose, it is both obvious and essential—as a person and an artist—to act responsibly within planetary boundaries and to actively contribute to making the world a better place.
