The immense significance of private individuals’ contributions to the museum’s history and collections cannot be overstated. Over the years, members have supported the museum through their membership fees and special fundraising efforts, enabling important acquisitions.
The collection has not only been shaped by wealthy patrons, but also by the collective efforts of many—making it possible for Malmö Art Museum to steward one of Sweden’s most important public art collections today.
To mark this anniversary, a special selection of approximately 60 artworks is on display, many of which have not been shown for decades. This is just a small sample of the 530 works listed in the association’s donation register. In addition, around thirty more works—both fine art and applied arts—are currently on view in the museum’s permanent exhibition The Collection.
