Jeremy Shokley: Travelers

Grinning clouds, rainbow snakes, levitating skeletons, lush forest floors and luminous moons populate Jeremy Shockley’s universe in the solo exhibition Travelers.

Twenty three small-scale canvases, ranging from 20 x 25 cm to 121 x 91cm in size, presents a surreal and magical dimension just beyond. In several works, a stage curtain, partially open, operates as passageway to this dimension, in other works, a ladder invites you to enter the clouds.

Painted with masterful finesse, the oil paintings have a meditative quality, inviting the viewer to travel with them, to wander in spirit. Many of the works have an air of bittersweet melancholy, of longing simultaneously for departure and return.
