As part of this year’s Art Matter Festival, 2112 is pleased to invite you to a performance with Sophie Dupont in her current solo exhibition in the gallery in Copenhagen on Thursday, June 4 from 17-18.
Falling Breath is a participatory durational performance in which the audience is invited to whisper private confessions about what makes them fall—into love, desire, fear, grief, obsession, memory, or vulnerability. In response to each whisper, Sophie Dupont physically falls.
The work transforms language into physical consequence; intimacy becomes impact. Through repetition, the familiar metaphor of ‘falling’ shifts from romance toward exhaustion, ritual, endurance, and accumulation. Each participant contributes to the gradual deterioration of the body, implicating the audience not merely as witnesses, but as collaborators in the act itself.
The performance examines how we experience vulnerability, and how vulnerability is often hidden, controlled, or privatized within public space. By insistently placing herself in a state of physical and emotional exposure, Sophie Dupont approaches breath and vulnerability as forms of activist resistance—not as weakness, but as collective and political positions. The body functions simultaneously as material, instrument, and measure; absorbing the emotional projections of those who approach it.
