In Beyond the Horizon, 2024, the British-Japanese artist duo A.A.Murakami (Azusa Murakami and Alexander Groves) creates a sensory landscape where technology gives form to the ephemeral. In a darkened space, bubble-like clouds emerge and dissolve in a slow, almost breathing rhythm – lit from behind, drifting through the room before quietly fading away.
The work revolves around what lies just beyond reach: the stillness of night, the vastness of the cosmos, and the beauty of things that exist only for a moment. Using custom-built technology, A.A.Murakami creates an ever-shifting choreography of presence and disappearance – an experience that never repeats itself.
Rooted in Asian aesthetics, where clouds often symbolize impermanence and the connection between the earthly and the celestial, Beyond the Horizon invites reflection on the boundary between the material and the immaterial. Here, the intangible briefly becomes present – before slipping out of sight once again.
