The Danish artist Nanna Abell (b. 1985) creates subtly absurd juxtapositions of everyday objects and found materials, breathing new life into them through unexpected and imaginative constellations. Her works uncover the overlooked beauty of the things we surround ourselves with while simultaneously highlighting the absurdities in how we perceive, interact with and navigate the world around us.
For her most extensive solo exhibition to date, Abell draws directly from Gammel Strand’s architectural framework, treating the building itself as an organic raw material from which her works emerge. Walls are duplicated, colours are intensified and scales are distorted in an immersive exhibition that reflects on themes of resources, collapse and human perception.
This exhibition is part of a new series at Gammel Strand spotlighting significant Danish artists who are reshaping and redefining the medium of sculpture. In 2024, the series featured an exhibition by Tove Storch (b. 1981) and it will conclude in 2026 with an exhibition by Benedikte Bjerre (b. 1987).
