Is there such a thing as a normal body?

Is there such a thing as a normal body?
Or more aptly, perhaps, the question should be: is there such a thing as an abnormal body. This is the question asked by Fuglsang Kunstmuseum when we welcome contemporary art’s presentation of bodies that fall outside the norm.
The exhibition Other Body is about feeling regret, anger, pain, and shame because of one’s body. The works are of both a personal and general nature whose narratives address issues such as living with visible and invisible disabilities, being fat, or being queer. The artists ‘verbalise’ what is considered impolite to discuss, and they puncture ideas of normality when they lay bare their souls. With equal measures of gravity and humour, they challenge our perception of ourselves and others.
Other Body contributes to the current debate on mental health and prejudices about bodily standards, addressing greater social issues presented in art: what kind of body is required if one wants a career, be sexually desirable, speak as an expert in the media, have children?
The exhibition gathers some of the strongest Danish and international artists presently working with the othered body:
Panteha Abareshi, Mel Baggs, Kinga Bartis, Tore Hallas, Miriam Kongstad, Al Masson, Lydia Pettit, Luna Scales, and Nanna Starck.
Other Body features, for example, installation, video, painting, and sculpture, and many works are produced specifically for this exhibition.
The information in the exhibition is translated into English and German.
