Sara-Vide Ericson (b. 1983) is one of the Nordic region’s most prominent young painters. Gammel Strand will show her largest solo exhibition to date. Ericson works in large-scale figurative oil paintings, drawing inspiration from her immediate surroundings in Hälsingland, northern Sweden.
Ericson conjures a mythological visual language that speaks to primal instincts while raising profound existential questions. Often featuring herself within her compositions, these works are not self-portraits but rather representations of an archetype—one that persistently interrogates our relationship with the past, nature, ourselves and each other.
Through an array of ambitious new works created specifically for Gammel Strand’s top two floors, visitors are invited into an artistic universe poised on the edge of ancient myths and the familiar scenes of everyday life.
