Every time you breathe, you inhale a plant. Or at least the oxygen that plants have produced, which is in constant circulation and transformation between living beings. In a former hospital kiosk at Frederiksberg Hospital, artist Kirstine Autzen explores zones of exchange between different systems: the circulatory systems of the human body and of plants, based on our shared exchange of oxygen and CO₂.
Kiosk is the former gift shop at Frederiksberg Hospital and today one of the two exhibition spaces run by the artist collective Lokale. The space is temporarily part of the ongoing transformation of the Hospital Garden from hospital grounds into a residential area, under the motto Grow the new from the old. Frederiksberg Hospital has existed since 1903, but will close at the end of 2026.
Kirstine Autzen works experimentally with photography in the field between analog and digital techniques, often by twisting familiar materials and methods to create unexpected disruptions in our expectations of the images we encounter. She is engaged with themes such as transformation and hybridity as fundamental conditions of our existence.
The exhibition can partly be seen from the street every day, but will be open to the public on selected days.
