"I notice that in the new works I am making, in almost whatever material, the surface (which has always been something I’ve attended to) has become richer. It’s never really illusionistic but more like a celebration - but strongly contained. The surfaces belong to each individual work, whether on the wall or on the floor, and particularise them. I’ve always made things that have a high degree of autonomy, I guess that they are better dressed these days."
