With the performance Cocktail in Arms, Jesper Aabille explores the historical connection between cocktails and war.
Drawing on a bygone European era and a lost war culture, in which cocktails such as French 75, Navy Grog, and Sidecar were linked to military technological advances, morale-building, and cultural exchange, the audience is invited into a new Europe marked by inevitable militarization, accompanied by cynical stock market speculation and news FOMO. Here, rearmament appears as the only remedy for the great powers’ fear of total war
Participants are invited into a sensory and collective act in which cocktails are shaken in a gigantic shaker, carried by a structure of steel, wood, and leather. The performance moves between humor and unease, between community and military symbolism, and is sustained by the hope for a day when the name of a cocktail will simply be a beautifully sounding name, without historical echo.
There are three shakes with 11 seats each. Reserve a spot by writing to @aabille or mail@aabille.dk. You must be over 18.
