Site-specific installation Linear Chains Of the Body-mind refers to the work of Giuseppe Calligaris (1876- 1944), an Italian neurologist, whose main research interest was the body-mind reflex chains. He discovered that human skin is covered with a network of lines, stimulation of which influences not only the physiology of inner organs but also activates the subconscious mind. This, in turn, can lead to profound changes in perception and induce psychic experiences.

The installation is a result of a 6-months long collective research that aimed to test some of Calligaris’ discoveries in practice. It’s an attempt to map a fragment of this body-mind network, investigate its internal logic, and explore causality patterns between seemingly unrelated. There is little room for randomness, as according to Calligaris’ research everything is interconnected and governed by numbers. The invisible is anchored in the physical at precise coordinates and reveals itself in subjective experience when correctly identified and activated.

The exhibition is part of the Wrong biennale; some works are accessible via an offline Wi-fi network. During the opening Andreja Andric and Małgorzata Żurada will perform Andreja Andric’s One Bit Net Dance – a work for laptop ensemble where a custom made network system combines the individual music lines of different performers into a unique music flow. The performers develop the music together and use the network system to explore new ways to connect with each other through collective music making. The exhibition will close with a performance of a new work developed especially for this occasion by Sall Lam Toro.

Małgorzata Żurada (PL) is an interdisciplinary artist currently based in Zürich. She develops her works from esoteric theories and rituals of past and present. The main areas of her research are visual languages connected to various belief systems and means of coding secret knowledge.
