I Compare You to a Young, Slender Shoot is a lyrical collection of writings accompanied by drawings, a performance and an exhibition. To mark the publication of the book by the publishing house/magazine on 29 May 2026, there will be a book launch, an exhibition of the drawings and a performance in which the texts from the book will be recited, read aloud and physically interpreted at Bladr in Griffenfeldsgade, Nørrebro. The performance will take place at 6pm in Folkets Park, just outside Bladr.
The book consists of 22 love poems written in varying numbers of verses, in a minimalist graphic style, alongside drawings created with ink and pen. Each cover features hand-printed graphics, and several of the pages also contain hand-printed graphics. The poems are written without any definition of gender or temporal and social context, so that the focus is exclusively on the acts of falling in love themselves. The title refers to a sentence in a translation of Sappho’s fragments. The book is available at a special price on 29 May at Bladr ́, as well as during the exhibition period.
The performance, which can be experienced on 29 May, is inspired by archaic theatre, featuring masks, soloists and a chorus. Maya Peitersen interprets her texts in an exuberant multidisciplinary solo performance, in which she changes character many times throughout.
