The Round Tower was built in 1642. Today it is a living landmark of Copenhagen, featuring unique architecture, changing exhibitions, an observatory at the top, and a 360-degree view of Copenhagen.
The tower was erected in 1642 by Christian IV as an astronomical observatory, a function which is still active. The Round Tower has over 650,000 visitors annually and is known for its unique architecture, spiral ramp, and views over Copenhagen's old Latin Quarter. Halfway up the tower, in the 800 sqm Library Hall, visitors can experience changing exhibitions, special events, and concerts. The hall once served as a university library until 1861, hence the name, and was restored in 1987, reopening as an exhibition space and venue for concerts, lectures, and other cultural events.
